remark: I'll probably overwite this story one day. I'm under heavy pressure right now, but this seems a hard to understand issue.

In the "metaview" (aka magic requests in ?xmlns=mind) there's the "support" section. It lists all the hosts, where the place is replicated.

Entries are either public host id's or dns names.

Tipp: if you change the support to drop unreachable hosts, first drop those, before you add others. (Because the current quorum would could lock up otherwise, why is left as an execrise to the reader.)
