Adobe Portable Document Format

A Format defined as the intended successor for PostScript.

Adobe converts it to HTML.

The Mars (code name) Project is an XML-friendly implementation of PDF syntax. Is "Mars" the same as XMP (available under BSD licence.

It happens to include a risk: JavaScript can be embedded. see demo.
